A Freak in the Streets
As a recovering addict, I always assumed that Bangkok was the one city I should avoid. Last year I changed my mind. I wanted to experience this mysterious city firsthand and see what the hype is all about. I figured that you only live once, and I had never really been to Asia (Dubai doesn't count).









In my 20s I associated Bangkok with go-go bars, sex shows, and the seedier side of life. Back then I didn’t want to pick up any more bad habits. Now I’m in my 40s and set in my ways. A person’s nature has settled by now and middle-aged people rarely pick up new vices, so I felt I could trust myself to really absorb the culture, the people, and the feeling of Bangkok, without being distracted. And so I went, and I’m happy to say I walked away really knowing a city, and leaving with just the same bad habits I came with.
